Remake rate

Also called: remake percentage, redo rate

Remake rate is the share of a dental lab’s cases that have to be made again. It is worked out by dividing the number of remakes in a period by the number of cases delivered in the same period. Labs track it overall, and by practice, type of work and cause.

How it shows up between practice and lab

The overall rate says little by itself. Broken down by cause, it shows whether remakes come from the bench, from the records or from missing details.

Broken down by practice, it starts a useful conversation. A practice with a pattern can be shown the pattern, with the cases behind it.

The number is only as good as the log behind it. Every remake needs a cause recorded at the time, in the same words each time.
