Case tracking
Also called: lab case tracking, dental lab case tracking
Case tracking is keeping a current record of every dental lab case. The record shows which lab has the case, what stage it is at, when it is due back and which appointment it is for. Practices track the cases they send out, and labs track the cases on their benches, often in separate systems.
How it shows up between practice and lab
A practice usually tracks cases in a spreadsheet, a logbook or its practice software. A lab uses a whiteboard, case pans or lab software.
Each record is accurate from its own side. The trouble starts when the two disagree and nobody finds out until the due date.
Status calls come from that gap. The practice cannot see the lab’s board, so someone phones, and someone at the lab stops work to look.
Tracking works best when both sides read one record, with the Rx, the files, the messages and the dates on it.
