Seat appointment
Also called: seating appointment, delivery appointment, insert appointment
A seat appointment is the visit where a dentist places a finished restoration or appliance, such as a crown, bridge, veneer or denture, in the patient’s mouth. The work has to be back from the dental lab before that visit, so the appointment date sets the real deadline for the lab case.
How it shows up between practice and lab
The practice books the seat appointment on the day of the preparation or the scan. That date goes on the Rx, and the lab plans its own ship date from it.
When the lab’s date moves, the practice needs to know while the appointment can still be moved.
A patient who arrives before the case has lost the trip, and the practice has lost the chair time.
