Remake

Also called: redo, lab remake, remade case

A remake is a restoration or appliance that the lab makes a second time because the first could not be used. The cause may be the fit, the shade, the bite, a damaged impression or a detail missing from the Rx. A remake costs the lab materials and bench time, and costs the practice an appointment.

How it shows up between practice and lab

A remake is a problem for both sides, and its cause can sit in the handoff. A shade that was never written down can be traced to the first day of the case.

A written remake policy says who pays in which situation, and what the lab needs to see. It keeps the conversation about the case.

The useful step after a remake is a short note on what went wrong, kept where both sides can find it. Patterns only show when the notes are kept.
