CDCP

Also called: Canadian Dental Care Plan

The CDCP is the Canadian Dental Care Plan, a federal program that helps pay for dental care for eligible Canadian residents who do not have dental insurance. It pays a share of its own established fees, depending on family income. Some services, including crowns, need the plan’s approval before treatment starts.

How it shows up between practice and lab

The plan adds a step before some lab cases can begin. A crown needs preauthorization, so the lab case starts after the approval arrives.

Lab fees are handled on their own terms. The plan’s guide says it reimburses reasonable and customary laboratory fees, and that it can ask for the lab’s invoice.

That makes a clear, itemized invoice part of the case. A practice should tell the lab when a case is under the plan, so the paperwork is ready if requested.
