Digital workflow

Also called: digital dentistry workflow, digital dental workflow

A digital workflow is a way of making dental restorations in which the case stays digital from start to finish. The practice scans the teeth, the lab designs the restoration on screen, and a mill or printer makes it. A partly digital workflow mixes these steps with physical impressions or models.

How it shows up between practice and lab

Going digital speeds up the first handoff and leaves the others in place. The scan arrives at once, and the questions, approvals and delivery still have to happen.

It also adds places for a case to sit. A scan can wait in an inbox, and a design can wait for approval, with no pan on a bench to remind anyone.

It helps to agree who watches each step. The files move quickly, and the follow-up is still done by people.
